How cat years are estimated
A cat does not age by seven human years every birthday. Cats develop very quickly at first. A common comparison places a one-year-old cat near 15 human years and a two-year-old near 24. Each later cat year adds roughly four human years in this simple model.
That makes a five-year-old cat approximately 36 in human terms, while a ten-year-old is approximately 56. These comparisons help describe broad life stages, but they are not a clinical assessment.
Indoor, outdoor and individual cats
Lifestyle, genetics, weight, preventive care and health can influence how an individual cat ages. Indoor and outdoor cats may face different risks. A calculated number cannot capture those differences, so use your vet's advice for check-ups, nutrition and any change in behaviour.
