How this cat age calculator works
The human-age comparison follows the International Cat Care chart: rapid development to about 15 human years at age one and 24 at age two, followed by roughly four human years per cat year. Life stages use current AAHA and AAFP boundaries.
The result includes an approximate human-age comparison based on the species method explained below.

A cat aged two is approximately 24 in human years. After that, the comparison adds about four human years per cat year. These are illustrative equivalents, not a measure of health or a prediction of lifespan.

Cat age conversion examples
How old is a 2 year old cat in human years?
About 24 human years. The first cat year corresponds to about 15, and the second adds about 9.
How old is a 5 year old cat in human years?
About 36 human years: 24 + (5 − 2) × 4 = 36.
How old is a 10 year old cat in human years?
About 56 human years: 24 + (10 − 2) × 4 = 56.
The later-years formula is 24 + (cat age − 2) × 4. Do not apply it to kittens or cats younger than two; their early development follows a different curve.

How do I convert human years to cat years?
You can read the comparison chart backwards, but you cannot turn a person's age into a precise biological cat age. In this chart, 40 human years corresponds to about six cat years. That describes the chart's analogy, not how a particular person or cat is ageing.
For a human-age equivalent of 24 or more, reverse the later-years formula: cat age = 2 + (human-age equivalent minus 24) / 4. For 40, that is 2 + (40 minus 24) / 4 = 6. For 56, it gives 10, matching the ten-year-old cat example above.

Six useful results from one date
What does “percentage of lifespan completed” mean?
The calculator divides exact elapsed age by the midpoint of the cited typical lifespan range. For a cat with a 12 to 18 year range, that midpoint is 15 years. It is a simple way to place age in context, not a forecast for an individual animal.
A result can exceed 100% when a pet lives beyond the midpoint. That does not imply anything is wrong. Typical ranges describe populations and individual lives can sit outside them.
Why exact age matters more than novelty “pet years”
Exact calendar age is stable and checkable. Human-age analogies can help make rapid early development easier to picture, but only when a credible species-specific model exists. Life Dates always leads with the real date and labels every comparison as approximate.
