How to calculate days until your birthday

Take the month and day of your birthday and find its next occurrence. If the date is still ahead this calendar year, count to that date. If it has already passed, use the same date next year. If today is your birthday, the answer is zero days.

For example, if today is 16 July and your birthday is 2 August, count forward to 2 August this year. If your birthday was 2 June, count to 2 June next year. Use real calendar dates so different month lengths and leap days are handled correctly.

How many weeks until my birthday?

Divide the whole-day countdown by seven for complete weeks, keeping the remainder as days. A 24-day countdown is three weeks and three days.

What happens for a 29 February birthday?

Leap-day birthdays require a convention in non-leap years. For official uses, follow the relevant legal or organisational rule. A consumer countdown may use 28 February or 1 March depending on its calendar behaviour.
