The answer is the number of complete calendar days from today to the next occurrence of your birth month and day. If your birthday is today, the countdown is zero. The calculator above also gives complete weeks plus remaining days, the weekday and date, and the age you will turn.

Birthday countdown worked example

On 27 August 2026, someone born on 10 March 2000 has 195 days until their next birthday. That is 27 complete weeks and 6 days. Their next birthday is Wednesday, 10 March 2027, when they turn 27.

How to calculate days until your birthday

Take the month and day of your birthday and find its next occurrence. If the date is still ahead this calendar year, count to that date. If it has already passed, use the same date next year. If today is your birthday, the answer is zero days.

For example, if today is 16 July and your birthday is 2 August, count forward to 2 August this year. If your birthday was 2 June, count to 2 June next year. Use real calendar dates so different month lengths and leap days are handled correctly.

Divide the whole-day countdown by seven for complete weeks, keeping the remainder as days. A 24-day countdown is three weeks and three days.

What happens for a 29 February birthday?

This calculator treats 28 February as the birthday in a non-leap year and clearly labels that convention in the result. Some organisations use 1 March instead. For legal or official purposes, follow the rule required by the relevant organisation or jurisdiction.
